Diabetes are caused by our kids’ diets. True or false?
In general, diabetes happens when a body has too much glucose (AKA sugar) in the blood. Regardless, the cause of type 1 diabetes is different from that of type 2, making the answer to today’s ‘true or false’ question… FALSE.
For children with type 2 diabetes, being overweight is the leading cause. While for kids with type 1 diabetes, it may be triggered by genetics or exposure to certain viruses, but researchers aren’t yet able to pinpoint the exact cause.
Unfortunately, there’s no way to prevent type 1 diabetes, but there are steps to take to help your child avoid type 2, including a balanced diet and plenty of exercise. If you suspect your child has either type of diabetes, based on the list of symptoms here, make an appointment to see his or her physician ASAP.
All the best,
Iris
