Kale, Carrots & More: Can these goodies help prevent winter allergies?

There are so many articles these days about the wonders of fruits and veggies in preventing and fighting colds, flu, allergies and even asthma. We have our skeptics, who say we should just leave it all up to modern medicine, and believe me, I’m NOT telling you to go off the meds by any means. But we all know that these foods are GOOD for us, so what’s the harm in eating them?!

I recently read a blog post from One Green Planet that had a list of foods perfect for this time of year and why. These, of course, include the three reigning super veggies – sweet potatoes, spinach and kale, as well as the ever-healthy green tea, but the post also talked about some I hadn’t known to be as wonderful as they apparently are.

Take carrots, for example. When I think of carrots, I think of eye health and good vision. But apparently the same vitamins that work for those organs also help get rid of our winter congestion and even fight cancer and heart disease!

Another they listed is pumpkin seeds. While I’m a huge fan of seeds, I didn’t know that pumpkin seeds contained so many good-for-you things, like Vitamin E, protein, iron and omega 3, which do a lot for our bodies.

To say the least, it was a very interesting post for me. And I’m curious to find out if you’ve experienced benefits from any of these foods or others in combating winter ailments. If so, please share with me in the Comments below. For the full blog post from One Green Planet, click here.
