When back to school, education starts at home.

When back to school, education starts at home.

As I’ve said a thousand times before… as parents, we are our children’s first and foremost educators, and one of the most important things we do in this role is teach them about their health. I know that if you’re reading this post, your kid’s health education is of utmost importance to you, whether related to food allergies, asthma, diabetes or another health concern.

While it was my own family’s experience that founded AllerMates, it’s been your stories that have helped us build beyond our original line of safety products. In fact, AllerMates “Teacher Forms” were inspired by a mom to a kid with celiac disease, who told me about how she made sure to explain in detail her child’s condition year after year to teachers and wished there was something to make that process easier.

As our tagline states, we exist for the purpose of “Safeguarding Kids,” so while you prepare your kid to go back to school, make sure it’s more than backpacks and lunches… don’t forget their health, too. Here are some things we have to help:

  1. Actions Plans for Allergies and Asthma. These should be going anywhere your food allergy or asthma kid goes, but if you need a copy, we’ve got one for you.
  2. Teacher Forms. Download, print and fill one of these out, so that your teacher knows all about what your child is dealing with. Get one for allergies, asthma, gluten/celiac or diabetes.
  3. Safety Rules. Make sure your kid understands how to stay safe against his or her food allergies when you’re not around. Print a copy and go over them. Better yet, talk to your school about hanging up one or more of our 18×24 Allergy Safety Rules posters so that everyone knows how to keep our kids safe.
  4. Kids Club. We know that kids learn best while they’re having fun, and that’s where our Kids Club shines. Let the colorful gang of characters that’s the AllerMates teach your kids about their health. The Wiggles (yes, The Wiggles!) have also created a video on our Allergy Safety Rules to help, too. See it here.
  5. Awareness Accessories. Let’s face it… our kids sometimes forget. But if they’re wearing accessories that help make others aware – like bracelets, lunch bags, dog tags and more – they’re more likely to stay safe. Shop these sales to accessorize your kid in safety this school year:

BOGO FREE on black med bags with code GOBLACK. (Note: the small one fits an inhaler OR Auvi-Q!)

15% OFF all other med bags with code BAGS15!

15% OFF snack bags with code BAGS15!

This is just a little of what my team at AllerMates offers. We invite you to take some time to explore our site, store and this blog to see what else you can find to help you. Should you think of something we can do to assist further, don’t hesitate to comment below and let us know.

Here’s to keeping our kids safe. : )
