Your kid must go to the emergency room as a result of using epinephrine. True or false?

You may have been told that your kid has to go to the ER after receiving an epinephrine injection, and that’s true. However, it’s not because they got the epinephrine; it’s because the allergic reaction may require further monitoring, which makes the answer to today’s “True or False” question… FALSE.

Many kids need another dose of epinephrine and other emergency treatments due to a secondary (biphasic) reaction or the severity of the reaction or simply because the device was not used correctly. (Note: The most common mistake is not holding the device against your child’s thigh for the time required for the full dose of medication to be delivered, so be sure to follow the instructions!) All of these reasons make a trip to the ER the safest thing for your kid after using epinephrine, so don’t hesitate to head that way.
